    THE C5 ROAD CONTROVERSY
-he issue that once cost him the Senate leadership is still haunting Sen. Manny Villar. Despite his declarations that the C5 Road Extension project is aboveboard, many questions still remain unanswered. And now some of his contemporaries in Senate believe that he indeed committed a “double insertion," meaning the project was twice funded in the contract. Moreover, other senators alleged that he benefited from right-of-way payments from government projects built on his properties. Are there truth to the allegations or is Sen. Villar, as he claims, simply a victim of politicking?

    SEX VIDEOS
-Dr. Hayden Kho and actress Katrina Halili’s sex video is not the first to ever create a scandal. But the question is, could lawmakers make sure that this would be the last to be circulated? To date there are no laws that pertain to the circulation of sex videos, although there are about five resolutions still pending in both the Senate and Congress that address this issue. No pertinent laws mean no convictions for perpetrators of these acts and more opportunities for unsuspecting people to be victimized. While our politicians hasten to enact new laws on this matter, some can’t help but ask if this is a case of too little, too late?

    SPORTS
-MANILA, Philippines - San Sebastian College seeks its third consecutive win and at least a playoff for a semifinal berth when it meets Adamson University on Tuesday in the Shakey's V-League at The Arena in San Juan City.

San Sebastian won its first two quarterfinal matches behind the superb showings of Thai import Jaroensri Bualee, Rysabelle Devanadera, Suzanne Roces, Analyn Joy Benito, Charisse Ancheta and Laurence Ann Latigay.

But expect Adamson to fight tough in the 4 p.m. setto as it wants a better placing if it reaches the semifinals, the cast of which is slowly being determined with the defeat of USLS-Bacolod last Sunday at the hands of the Lady Falcons.

That victory was the Lady Falcons' first in two games after bowing to UST, which already earned a playoff for a semifinal spot via a three-set win over University of San Jose-Recoletos also last Sunday. It was the Tigresses' third win in as many outings.

In order for reigning champion Adamson to defeat San Sebastian, reigning MVP Nerissa Bautista, Paulina Soriano, Rissa Jane Laguilles, Angela Benting, Joanna Carpio and Jill Gustillo must double their efforts.

In the 2 p.m. curtain-raiser, Far Eastern University takes on USLS-Bacolod, which has yet to enter the win column.

Pundits are one in their forecast that the Lady Stingers are easy preys to the Lady Tams in the single-round quarterfinal.

-Roach: Pacquiao will break down Mayweather if they collide
MANILA, Philippines – The fight remains a dream showdown for now but trainer Freddie Roach already has an idea how his ward Manny Pacquiao will approach and break down Floyd Mayweather Jr if ever they climb the ring together.

“Floyd’s shoulder roll wouldn’t work against Manny," Roach said when he guested recently on ESPN. “If he wants to lay on the rope, we’d love that. Manny will go to his body and Floyd will be broken down."

Clamor for a possible Pacquiao-Mayweather bout remains high as ring aficionados want to see who will prevail in a battle between two pound-for-pound top guns.

Pacquiao has been the consensus P4P king since the unbeaten Mayweather retired a year and a half ago. Early this month, Mayweather announced his return to boxing, facing Pacquiao’s old rival Juan Manuel Marquez on July 18 and claiming he’s still the No. 1 fighter in the planet and the sport’s top draw.

Right after Pacquiao demolished Ricky Hatton in two rounds, the Pacman has been shopping for an opponent and Mayweather, being the former P4P boss, is among the frontrunners.

Being considered, too, are Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto and Sugar Shane Mosley with the names of Marquez, Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr. and Edwin Valero also mentioned.

But if you ask Roach, anyone among Cotto, Mayweather Jr. and Mosley is the most likely next opponent for his prized ward, who’s eyeing an October 17 outing.

As to who will win the Pacquiao sweepstakes, Roach said it’s a matter of who’s the easiest to deal with.
